Prof. Dr. Fran Borovečki was born in 1975 in Zagreb, Croatia. He graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 1999 and earned his PhD from the same institution in 2004. Between 2003 and 2007, he pursued further training on several occasions at Harvard Medical School, as well as at New York University. He is employed as a specialist in neurology and a subspecialist in neurodegenerative diseases at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital Centre (KBC) Zagreb, where he has been the Head of the Department for Neurodegenerative Diseases and Neurogenomics since 2017.
Since 2017, he has also served as the head of the doctoral program “Biomedicine and Health” at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. Since 2015, he has been the head of the Centre for Translational and Clinical Research at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine and KBC Zagreb. As of 2025, Prof. Borovečki is the Director of University Hospital Centre (KBC) Zagreb.
To date, he has published 102 papers indexed in the CC and WoS databases, which have been cited over 5,313 times according to Google Scholar. He has delivered more than 50 invited lectures at national and international scientific conferences. Prof. Dr. Borovečki is the recipient of the award for the best doctoral dissertation defended at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine for the academic year 2003/2004, a scholarship from the Croatian Science Foundation, a Fulbright scholarship, and the Rapid Response Innovation Award granted by the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
