Prof. Alen Ružić, PhD, was born on September 25, 1972, in Rijeka. He graduated in 1997 from the University of Rijeka Faculty of Medicine, where he subsequently completed the postgraduate scientific master’s program in “Biomedicine”. At the same faculty, he also completed the postgraduate specialist program in “Internal Medicine” in 2002. He specialized in internal medicine and cardiology, and earned his PhD from the Faculty of Medicine Osijek in 2007. Ružić attained the title of Full Professor with tenure and served as Acting Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Rijeka Faculty of Medicine, as well as Head of the Clinic for Cardiovascular Diseases at University Hospital Centre Rijeka.
During his career, he has published more than 60 professional and scientific papers and has participated as author or co-author of 12 textbooks and chapters in university textbooks. From 2017 to 2020, he served as Vice-Rector for Science and Arts at the University of Rijeka, and from 2020 until February 2026, he served as Director of University Hospital Centre Rijeka. Since February 2026, he has held the office of Minister of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy of Croatia.
