Head Nurse of the Department of Surgery at Sveti Duh University Hospital and International Program Coordinator for Enterostomal Therapy at the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET)

Vesna Konjevoda is an expert in the field of nursing with extensive experience in leading healthcare teams and conducting education, seminars, and workshops. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree from the Faculty of Health Studies at the University of Rijeka in 2019, and subsequently completed her postgraduate doctoral studies at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, where she was awarded the academic title of Doctor of Science in 2022.

With 30 years of professional experience at the “Sveti Duh” University Hospital in Zagreb, she currently holds the position of Head Nurse of the Department of Surgery.

Throughout her career, Vesna Konjevoda has played a key role in improving the quality of nursing practice and healthcare management. She has published articles in professional and scientific journals, chaired numerous organizational, professional, and scientific committees, and actively participated in congresses and conferences in Croatia and abroad, contributing to professional literature and knowledge exchange on both national and international levels.

She is a lecturer at the Department of Nursing at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Zagreb, the Catholic University of Croatia in Zagreb, and the Faculty of Health Studies at the University of Rijeka, where she is also the program leader and international coordinator for the field of enterostomal therapy at the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET), as well as a member of its Constitutional Advisory Committee.

She underwent advanced training at St. Mark’s Hospital in London in the areas of intestinal failure, fistulas, stomas, and inflammatory bowel diseases. In 2015, she founded the Association of Nurses/Technicians in Digestive Surgery, of which she has been the president since its establishment. She has organized numerous congresses, symposiums, and courses in the fields of enterostomal therapy, digestive and endoscopic surgery, as well as public health initiatives aimed at the prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer and the reduction of stigma faced by people with stomas.

She is a member of the editorial board of the Croatian Nursing Journal, which publishes peer-reviewed articles in the fields of nursing and healthcare. Her involvement in the editorial board contributes to the quality and development of the journal and promotes scientific and professional standards in the nursing profession. She was also a member of the Croatian Nurses Association’s working group for the development of Standardized Nursing Procedures and a member of the Commission for Nursing at the Ministry of Health from 2014 to 2018.
